Beatification of Family Ulma

This sunday the 10th of September 2023 the polnish Family will be beatified by the Vatican.

The Vatican will beatify a Polish couple and their seven children who died at the hands of the Nazis for sheltering a Jewish family in 1944 in Markowa, Poland, this Sunday. Pope Francis won’t be present, but this event is a significant step toward potentially canonizing the Ulma family as saints, managed by the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

In a recent statement, the dicastery revealed that Wiktoria Ulma gave birth at the moment of her death, with the child joining the ranks of the family’s martyrs. The Ulma family’s children ranged in age from 18 months to 7 years. This event is historic, as it marks the first time an entire family is on the path to sainthood, as confirmed by the Vatican. The child born at the moment of his mother’s death is now considered living, not unborn. In preparation for the ceremony, the Ulma family’s remains have been exhumed and will be laid to rest after their beatification.
