Mary - Our Lady of Guadalupe

Mary - Our Lady of Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe) is a celebrated Catholic icon of the Virgin Mary also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe (Spanish: Virgen de Guadaloupe). According to the traditional account, the image appeared miraculously on the cloak of Juan Diego, a simple indigenous peasant, on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City on December 12th, 1531. The icon is on display in the Basilica of Guadalupe in the same locality and is regarded as Mexico's most popular religious and cultural image. The Lady of Guadalupe is of significant importance to Mexican Catholics and has been given the titles of "Queen of Mexico", Empress of the Americas", and "Patroness of the Americas".
